Aftercare

Your new tattoo is an open wound, any time you touch, wash or moisturize your tattoo, please make sure your hands are clean!

I will bandage your fresh tattoo with either plastic wrap or tegaderm, a transparent medical-grade adhesive film.

If bandaged with tegaderm, this bandage can remain on your tattoo between 3-4 days. During this time, ensure that it stays fully sealed.

You may experience some fluid build up beneath the bandage. This is normal! It is a build up of excess ink, blood and plasma. Showering is fine with this bandage, but do not soak or submerge the area in water.

When you’re ready to remove the bandage, run it under warm water or remove it ideally in the shower.

  • Starting with the bottom corners, gently stretch the bandage downwards to release the adhesive, rather than peeling it like a bandaid. This allows the bandage to come off without disrupting the tattoo.

  • Once the bandage comes off, wash the tattoo with unscented soap and pat dry with a clean paper towel. More tips below!

  • Your skin may be swollen and warm for a couple of days after being tattooed.

  • Wash your tattoo twice a day with unscented soap, I reccommend; Cetaphil Fragrance Free Wash, Dove Sensitive Skin Body Wash, Aveeno Skin Relief Fragrance-Free Moisturizing Body Wash.

  • As your tattoo heals, you will experience flaking, scabbing or peeling. Your tattoo will also become very itchy. Do not pick or scratch the area and avoid any friction or clothing that will disrupt the scabbing of your tattoo.

  • Use a light weight lotion and avoid any heavy oils or any products that contain petroleum. I recommend; Lubriderm Unscented Moisturizer, Aveeno Unscented Moisturizer, Cetaphil Fragrance Free Lotion, Cerave Daily Moisturizing Lotion.

  • When moisturizing your tattoo use a thin layer - don’t over load the skin.

  • Continue washing and moisturizing until the tattoo has fully healed (once all scabs/flaking has finished). Tattoos usually heal within 2-4 weeks from your appointment.

  • Avoid soaking or submerging your tattoo, no baths, pools, swimming or saunas.

  • Avoid excessive sweating, movement and exercise for the first 5-7days.

  • Avoid long sun exposure on your fresh tattoo, no suntanning or SPF. You can apply sunscreen once the tattoo is fully healed!

Happy healing! If you have any additional questions, feel free to email me!

If bandaged with plastic wrap, please remove the bandage 2-3 hours after your appointment. Wash the tattoo with warm water and unscented soap and pat dry with clean paper towel.

After 2-3 days, your tattoo will begin to feel dry, you can start moisturizing with an unscented lotion. More tips below!.
